About Melanie!

Representative Melanie Morgan of Washington State's 29th Legislative District brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role. In addition to having lived in the district for over 30 years, she is a U.S. Army veteran, and a passionate, faith-based advocate. Melanie's commitment to public service is deeply rooted in her diverse background. Her journey from experiencing homelessness has fueled her unwavering dedication as a housing advocate. She has served on the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and has been a tireless advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. As a program developer and entrepreneur, Melanie has established a 501c3 nonprofit organization and an LLC, showcasing her leadership and entrepreneurial spirit.

 

Her extensive professional background includes roles as a case manager, mortgage broker, and processor. Elected as a School Board Director and later as a State Representative, Melanie has consistently demonstrated her commitment to education and community service. She has chaired the House of Representatives Black Member Caucus and the Member of Color Caucus and serves as the Deputy Majority Floor Leader. Her leadership extends to vice-chairing the Housing, Community Development, and Veteran Affairs Committee and the Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee. Additionally, she serves on the Capital Budget, Regulated Substances & Gaming (COG), and Rules Committees and has previously served on the Finance Committee.

 

Melanie's dedication to her community is also evident in her involvement with the MLK Planning Celebration, further highlighting her commitment to honoring and continuing the legacy of civil rights leaders. Her multifaceted career and advocacy work make her a dynamic and influential representative, deeply committed to serving her constituents and improving the lives of those in her community.
